Haunted History

Great ideas have a funny way of becoming reality. Our first haunt happened almost by accident. Previously I helped other people with various haunted house fund-raisers. Through those events I began to be hit with the haunted house bug. As I created these haunted events I began to collect some really cool stuff. One year I decided to do a free haunted house for the place where I worked. I couldn't believe my eyes as I watched eager victims line up to be scared. This eventually lead me to the idea of doing one for our community. We live in a small town and on Halloween there isn't a lot for the kids to do. so, I loaded up all the various creepy, crawly, ghoulish things that I had amassed over the years. Put them into my car and drove from Columbus to Cusseta with a coffin on my roof and Michael Meyers in the front seat. What a site that must of been!

Under a warm October sky (we live in Georgia) I began to design the first Haunt. I began to transform our vacant yard into a graveyard, with an old wrought iron gate. There were no sounds to heighten the feeling of dread, but we had plenty of ghoulish characters who would pop out and surprise our willing victims. My dad would hide behind the bushes and startle unsuspecting visitors with a leaf blower. It was great!

We got through the first couple of years and used it as a learning experience. We've had amazing growth over the years. With first time visitors increasing each year. Much of our success has been due to steadfastness and creativity. I also have to credit the increased quality of the haunt. We now have elaborate props, realistic sound effects, eerie lighting, and a scare around every corner.

So what's next? Our Haunt will continue to grow. We will continue to be on the look-out for new and innovative ways to fill each and every one of you with insufferable fear and dread!
